They deserve a longer answer than what one can provide in a comment here, and I will maybe write a new blog ost to attempt to provide such an answer. But to give you at least a brief answer:
1) You translate a legal document as you would any other kind of text - by understanding as well as possible what the document is, what it means and what its purpose is, and also by understand what the purpose of your translation will be (the same as the original document, or some other purpose?)
2) You choose the words for your translation based on your answer to your first question. For example, if you are translating a contract so that the translation itself will be a legally binding contract, you may translate certain terms in a different ways than if you translated the same terms for instance for an academic article on comparative law.Riccardohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08033214185364578008noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3518334.post-86200143957021516862022-03-01T19:07:16.669-07:002022-03-01T19:07:16.669-07:00Hello, my name is Aura, and I'm an English lit...Hello, my name is Aura, and I'm an English literature student from Medan State of University in Indonesia. The tech support person said that this was just part of how Windows' copy/paste buffer worked (despite the fact that it hadn't been an issue before, and after a period of time and possibly an update it went back to working correctly).DrLith, WordSmithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03851043095735292346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3518334.post-29973126765174894852022-02-21T11:07:11.131-07:002022-02-21T11:07:11.131-07:00Hello Humairah,

For literary translation what is most important is the quality of the translator's writing, and how best she can convey in her writing the qualities of the original text.
But in scientific translation also the quality of writing is important, and in literary translation understanding all the nuances of the source text is equally important. In work requiring only short, factual and direct translations.

For example, birth certificates, instruction manuals, user interface translation for use in apps and the like tend to lend themselves very well to machine translation, and translators who translate these types of works particularly in bulk are likely to find that machine translation helps them out greatly in their productivity (Garcia), and in many cases only post-editing will be required instead of having to painstakingly translate similar words over and over again.

In works where more creative and/or nonstandard language is used such as literary translation, the current shortfalls of machine translation will likely make themselves more apparent, and translators of these works will find them less useful (Pym). I agree with the translators that you asked that said they don’t see machine translation as a threat, because language is so complex there will always be things machines can’t translate.Brittanynoreply@blogger.com
